The Taplen - Tupling One Name Study, herein refered to as the study, takes the privacy of it's members and of the public in general very seriously, the study is committed to protecting the privacy of both its members and of any living relatives whose details have been retained as part of the study. 1. General Usage
Under no circumstances will the personal details of study members or of living individuals connected to the study, including contact details, be sold, traded or passed in any way to any commercial third party without the express permission of the person concerned.
All data pertaining to the study is retained in a secure database, herein refered to as the study database, which is located within the United Kingdom and is therefore covered by United Kingdom legislation. Direct access will not be granted to any third party for any reason, except in matters relating to current United Kingdom legislation.
Information held within the study database will not be used for any form of financial gain.
Whilst the study website offers links to third party external websites, the privacy policy of the study does not extend to those websites. The study cannot be held responsible for the content or the privacy policy of any connected third party website or organisation.
2. Data Sharing
The study database as a whole will not be published online or in any other format. However, portions of data held within the study database, which directly relate to individuals now deceased, may be passed to members of the study for the purpose of furthering their research, or may appear on the study website, or in newsletters to study members. The release of this data will be purely for the purposes of research and in the spirit of sharing information relating to the study with other members and, where applicable, with members of the general public.
There will be no identifiable living individuals included in any released data under any circumstances, without the express and direct permission of the individual concerned. If there is any doubt as to whether an individual is still alive, an exclusion rule of 100 years from date of birth to the current date will be applied and the relevant steps will be taken to protect the identity of the individual.
Information submitted by our members concerning living relatives will be retained as part of the study database but will not be released directly to other members, or to members of the public, without steps being taken to protect the privacy of the individual. These steps can include, but are not limited to, the omission or generic substitution of specific identifying data including birth and/or marriage dates, locations and maiden names or forenames.
Contact information of members will be retained but will not be released to any commercial, non-commercial or individual third parties without the express permission of the member concerned, except in matters relating to current United Kingdom legislation.
3. Changes in policy
Should any changes be made to the privacy policy of the study, the appropriate efforts will be made to notify all members and contributors to the database. This will be done using their current contact information, no less than 14 days in advance of the changes taking effect. It is therefore in the interests of any contributors who wish to be kept informed on the usage of the study database, that any changes in contact information should be submitted to the study as soon as is practical.
Any changes will also be highlighted on this page except in cases where the changes are as a consequence of changes in current United Kingdom legislation
